One of the reasons I wanted to start this blog was to communicate some thoughts/insights/self care/self love to the readers who love me enough to indulge me 🙂
As a social worker who primarily functions as a therapist working with clients with addictions, I have found that quotes and daily affirmations are pretty helpful in motivating people to change their perspectives on challenging issues. Here’s a favorite of mine…words spoke by the late, great Ms. Angelou :
Ms. Maya Angelou was not only gifted with words, but she was also able to make people feel a certain way through her writings. I think that this quote is quite pertinent to anyone who is going through a hard time…especially when they forget that they already possess the tools inside of themselves to remedy challenging situations.
I think that getting bogged down with negativity about ourselves and our situations can make us forget just how powerful our inner voice/inner sparkle/inner shine can be. No situation is insurmountable if we have the courage to look within, ask for help, and remember that we have the power to change our reality.
Daily affirmations are insanely important and I try to encourage people to do this as often as possible if they can. Start with this quote from Ms. Angelou. Tell youself, “I won’t let anyone dull my shine today.” It may go a long way. 🙂 🙂
