This is definitely something that I discuss at work all of the time with my clients…and with myself, too. 😉
Humans make mistakes. It’s part of our experience. However, when we degrade ourselves and devalue ourselves because we have committed a perceived transgression (either against ourself or against another), we rob ourselves of a chance to grow from said mistake.
Mistakes are part of learning resiliency and can help us gain a different perspective. We sometimes need to make mistakes as a way to check ourselves the path we’re on. There are definitely times in my life where I never thought I could rebound from a mistake. However, I strongly believe that we are always where we are supposed to be in our journey and I need to go through this challenging time.
Realistic? Maybe. Maybe not. But I encourage anyone who thinks they are at an insurmountable point to think about who their biggest critic and obstacle is…and it’s most likely yourself. Give yourself a break from self-judgement. Own your mistakes, learn from them, and move forward. Life is too short to self-hate.
